Remember, I haven't listed all the competitions out there, just the ones that I trust and recommend. Just be careful before you send money to an "organization" or an individual, try and do some research and check to see if the song writing competition is legit because there are scam artists out there and given the chance they will take your money and run!

3 Great Reasons For Entering Songwriting Contests
1. Build That Confidence Of Yours!
Putting your songs out into the world to be judged by industry professionals can be a daunting experience. No-one likes being told they're not good enough but you have to remember, as cheesy as it might sound, "what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger". So if you were told your song didn't make the cut you know what you have to do for next time; step up your game and write better tunes!
That's the worst case scenario, what if the judges love your music and put you through to the finals, or maybe you even win 1st, 2nd, 3rd place etc. How confident would you be feeling then about your songwriting skill? I'm guessing extremely confident. Nothing will be able to stand in your way!
2. Get Some Recognition Within The Music Industry
Getting a foot in the door of the music business isn't an easy thing to do. You need to take as many opportunities as possible that come your way and winning a well respected song writing contest just so happens to be one of those opportunities.
3. Win Some Great Prizes & Money
This one's pretty self explanatory, who doesn't like winning cool prizes and lumps of cash?! The top competitions have some really good prizes, like we're talking about top of the range musical equipment and accessories. If that doesn't tickle your fancy maybe a big lump of cash would do the trick?
How To Tell If A Songwriting Competition Is A Scam
This is a tricky one to answer. I suppose the first red flag to look out for is the entry fee being charged. If the entry fee doesn't seem to justify the prizes that could be won then you know there is something up.
Also some of the bigger songwriting competitions have judging panels that are held with extremely high regard within the music industry such as famous musicians, record label bosses and music industry executives. So it's worth taking a look at the judging panel to see who is on board. Of course, it doesn't necessarily mean that the songwriting contest is a scam just because the judging panel isn't made up of music industry executives but it is something to keep in mind.
Another thing to look out for is the song writing contests reputation. Some contests are more well know than others and for good reason. Try and look at the contests past winners and see if they have gone on to bigger and better things since winning etc.
